MUSIC M502: MONTEVERDI
Fall 1999
Listening List
Week: 1 | 2 | 3
| 4 | 5 | 6
| 7
Listening assignments are given on the course
schedule and shown in more
detail below. You may listen to each piece (1) by using a Windows-based
computer in the Music Library to access the online copy of the recording
through the course webpage or through Variations, or (2) by checking out
the CD on reserve and using a CD player. Photocopied
translations and scores are available in the hanging files. You may also
use the complete editions in the stacks (under M 3 .M78 or M 3 .M78 A7).
The CD call number and the track number for each
selection are hypertext links through which you can access Variations
from a Window-based computer in the Music Library.
- If you click on the track number, Variations will play the
selection.
- If you click on the CD call number, Variations will show you the
contents of the entire recording. You can also play the recording from this
table of contents,
but in this case you will have to locate the correct track for yourself.
Because the listening list is set up with these direct links, you do not
need to use
the Music Library's reserve page for M502: Monteverdi to access Variations.
For more information about using Variations, see the Library's handout
"Listening to Reserve Recordings Online."
For the three Monteverdi operas, you should both listen to the work with
the score, using the computer or CD, and watch a performance, using laser
videodisc or videocassette. We will also try to schedule group viewings.
