The Credo is the longest text in the Mass Ordinary. There are relatively few melodies for the Credo, and the most common ones are based on melodic formulas that are used repeatedly, modified to fit each new phrase of the text. Most Credos are syllabic, both because of the length of the text and because until fairly late in the development of chant the Credo was sung by the entire congregation.
NAWM 3f is an example of a Credo in mode 4.
