Final Exam

Overall Description

The Final Exam will be structured exactly as the tests have been: there will be 3 parts-Identification, Listening, and Short Answers-but it will be a bit over 50% longer (we have 2 hours).

Listening

The Listening is NOT CUMULATIVE. It will ONLY cover material AFTER the second test, and as usual I will NOT re-use examples I have already used in the quizzes.  There will be 4 listening examples (10 points each).

Examples covered (minus the ones listed below): NAWM  48-58; 59-62; 65-69; 70-73; 74-76; 77; 78; 79; 82-87; 89; 90.

Additional listening included:

        Gabrieli, In Ecclesiis

Bach, Brandenburg Concertos: No. 5, first movement only

Bach, St. Matthew Passion, CD 1 tracks 18, 19, 20

Excluded (because they appeared on Quiz 5 and 6): 48; 50; 52; 55; 57; 61;  62; 66a; 69; 87.

Others not included: Bach, Concerto BWV 1065; Vivaldi, Op. 3/10.

Scores for the extra listening are on reserve at the library:  Reserves

Identification and Short Answers

The Identification and Short Answers sections WILL include material from earlier in the semester. HOWEVER, here is how I will do that: In each section, I will RE-USE some questions from Test 1 and Test 2 (for your convenience, I have posted the actual tests to these links).

In preparation for the final, you should review the two tests, and be sure you have good solid answers for all questions on them.

NOTE: The majority of questions in these two sections will come from the material SINCE Test 2 (see below).

Chapters covered since Test 2: 11-15, 17, 18, 19, all; Chapter 16, 353-372 (the section on French Baroque) only.

Identification will consist of 2 parts, just as in Tests 1 and 2: the first will be 15 out of 17 questions (2 points each); the second will be 10 out of 12 (2 points each).

Short Answers will be 12 out of 14 (5 points each).

Grading

The Final Exam will be worth 150 points total; the grading scale will be the usual 10% per letter grade (150-135 = A, etc. and I will use A-, B+, etc.)
