eurhythmics
- Definition:
A pedagogical system employing bodily movements to heighten
students' sensitivity to rhythmic flow. It was developed
in the early decades of the twentieth century by the Swiss
music educator Emile Jaques-Dalcroze (1865-1950). Representative
Dalcroze activities include a combination of stepping, walking,
and skipping in rhythm; clapping; singing and rhythmic
recitation; and rhythmic movements of the arms and torso.
Graybill (1990) employs Dalcroze eurhythmics in his pedagogy of
gestural rhythm.
