Definition:
The sense of rhythm that arises not from patterns of stress and duration, but from the rhythmic properties of the tonal system itself, such as the recurrence of a tone after one or more different ones, the octave relationship, chordal and linear associations, consonance and dissonance, etc. (Schachter 1976).
