A Cotswolds Diversion
The Cotswolds area,
west of Oxford, is quintessential rural England and a nice midpoint for
a break between Liverpool and London. It helps to
have a car, but if you are traveling by train, Moreton-in-Marsh is a
good
base to wander from, with great hikes, easy
bus connections and a direct train line to London's Paddington Station.
The small 16th century wool towns are the definition of
"quaint," but the real beauty of the
Cotswolds is found in the wonderful hikes from town to town through
fields and farms. The paths are well-marked and there are maps available
at any bookstore.
If you are looking for a place to spend a few idyllic days in the
Cotswolds, you might consider staying at the Park Farm Bed & Breakfast
in Blockley (near Moreton-in-Marsh). It is run by the delightful Joan
Dee, and is a good starting point for many roaming paths. Park Farm is
pictured at the lower right of the above picture.
