Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager, lived
with his family in relative affluence on Queen's Drive, not far from
Penny Lane but a world away from the Beatles' "two up, two down" and council
row houses. He died August 27, 1967 in London and was buried in the
Liverpool Jewish Cemetery (next to the Everton Cemetery in the Fazakerly
area).
3 Gambier Terrace
Parish Church
Cemetery, Huyton
Stuart Sutcliffe was John's art school friend and a major influence on
John's artistic sensibilities. John and Stu shared an apartment at 3
Gambier Terrace in 1960 before leaving for the Beatles' first trip to
Hamburg in August. Their apartment was a block from the art college
and overlooked the Anglican Cathedral. After a year as the Beatles' bass
player, Stu left the group to return to painting and to live in Hamburg
with his German fiancee, Astrid. He died of a brain hemorrhage in
Hamburg on April
10, 1962, and was buried in the Huyton Parish Church graveyard in east
Liverpool.
Julia's grave, Allerton Cemetery
1 Blomfield Road
John's mother, Julia, lived at 1 Blomfield Road, not far from Paul
McCartney's Forthlin Road home. After limited contact through his
childhood, John renewed his relationship with his mother during his teenage
years. He often visited Julia at Blomfield Road, and he was waiting
for her there in 1958 when he learned that she had been run over and
killed by a drunk off-duty policeman. Julia was buried in Allerton
Cememtery in a grave that is now unmarked.
