Takayori Atsumi Takayori Atsumi, professor of cello, is widely recognized as a recitalist, chamber musician, and pedagogue. He has performed as soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony, Flagstaff Summer Festival Orchestra, Central Philharmonic Orchestra of Beijing, People's Republic of China, and Guadalajara Orchestra. Principal cellist for nineteen years with the Phoenix Symphony, Mr. Atsumi has also performed with the Honolulu Symphony, and the Arizona Opera Orchestra. He is a founding member of the New Art String Quartet, the director of the ASU Cello Choir and director of Los Celistas, a professional cello quartet. Mr. Atsumi is a founder and president of the Arizona Cello Society, and the founder/president of the American Cello Council, Inc., which promotes professional cellists and American and World Cello Congresses. In past years, Mr. Atsumi's students have won first prizes in the M.T.N.A. and other competitions, and have earned positions in major symphonies.
