Alan Harris is currently Distinguished Professor of Cello at the Eastman School of Music, and a member of the artist faculty of the Aspen Music Festival and School.

Mr. Harris has conducted numerous master classes in cello performance and chamber music throughout the United States, Japan, and Australia.

Mr. Harris has been active as a performer:
Aspen Music Festival..... performances with Claus Adam, Jan Degaetani, Cleveland Quartet, Malcolm Frager, Lynn Harrell, Gidon Kremer, Ronald Leonard, Cho Liang Lin, Sergiu Luca, Robert MacDuffie, Brooks Smith, Karen Tuttle, Pinchas Zukerman, and many others......most recently, Sonatas of Bridge, Brahms, and Carter.

Eastman School of Music........cellist of the Eastman Quartet, 1970 to 1977.....performances throughout the United States.....concertos with area orchestras in Rochester and Chicago, recitals, most recently, chamber music with Oleh Krysa and George Taylor, an evening of unaccompanied Bach, and a recital of Beethoven, Bridge and Chopin with Yin-Min Chang.

Mr. Harris has recorded for Vox: The Chamber Music of Ives,, and the Trout Quintet, and is presently preparing to record the Suites of Bach for another label.

Throughout his teaching career, Mr. Harris has concentrated on a rational, informed physical and mental approach to cello playing. Having studied extensively physiology, and kinesthetics, his zeal for this `rational` approach was inspired by his primary mentor, and teacher, Janos Starker, and Raymond Stuhl, University of Kansas, who, early on, instilled a fundamental love for the wonder of music, and the highest standards of musical and work ethics.
