Maud Martin Tortelier

Born in Paris, Maud Martin Tortelier studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris under Pierre Fournier, Maurice Mar&eacyte;chal and Joseph Calvet, and received first prizes in both ‘cello and chamber music. Over the course of her career, she has appeared as a soloist with the great European orchestras, and has toured the world several times as concert soloist and recital partner with Paul Tortelier.

Maud Martin Tortelier taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris for fifteen years, at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany, and through masterclasses, she still perpetuates Paul Tortelier’s teachings. For EMI, and in partnership with Paul Tortelier, she recorded Paganini’s Variations on one string, among others. She also recorded Paul Tortelier’s Double-Concerto for Chandos with Arto Noras and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Yan-Pascal Tortelier.
