The Indiana University School of Music Elite String Instrument Collection is intended for the benefit of currently enrolled School of Music performance major students. The criteria for loaning the instruments is based on the needs of students who may not have a good performance instrument to meet the standards of playing in the University orchestras, private lessons, and chamber music ensembles.
Instruments are available on a per semester basis and they can be obtained by contacting Emilio Colón, curator of the collection. The collection contains two violins that are set aside for students entering national and international competitions. These two instruments (Guadagnini and Gagliano) require authorization from the violin faculty.
