Doctoral Styles Exam

        location: Recital Hall (MU100)
        time: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Dates and location subject to change.  Please note that the Styles Exam is offered only once a year, in each spring semester.  Students who have a conflict with a religious observance on the exam date should contact the Director of Graduate Studies at least ten days before the exam to arrange an alternative exam time.
 

Student identification numbers will be checked before students are admitted to the exam room. On-line sign-up is available here.

Remember - students can only take the graduate entrance exams two times, and are not eligible to take them after their second semester of enrollment.

Summer 2008 Graduate Entrance Exam Schedule

(Orientation begins on Thursday, June 12 for new students)

Thursday, June 12, 2008 - 1:00 to 4:00 pm Graduate Entrance Examination in Sight Singing

Sign up in the Music Graduate Office by Wednesday, June 11 for an individual Sight Singing Appointment time. New students will sign up on the morning of June 12 during orientation sign-in.


Thursday, June 12, 2008 - 6:00 to 8:30 pm Graduate Entrance Examination in Music History and Literature

The exam will be held in the Recital Hall (Merrill Hall room 110) - no need to sign up ahead of time, just bring a picture ID and pencil.

If you need to take only one section of the Music History exam (Early or Late Music History) you still need to start at 6:00 p.m. (the listening portion for both the Early and Late Music History sections will be played at 6:00 p.m.).  If you have already completed either the Early or Late Music History requirement (either through examination or through course completion) then you can answer the questions that apply to the section (Early or Late Music History) you need to take only, and not answer the questions that apply to the other section.

Friday, June 13, 2008 - 6:00 to 8:30 pm Graduate Entrance Examination in Aural and Written Music Theory

The exam will be held in Recital Hall (Merrill Hall room 110) - no need to sign up ahead of time, just bring a picture ID and pencil.

Aural Theory will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Written Theory will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  If you need to take the exam in only one subject, you can go to the time appointed for the particular subject you need to take.

Deadline to sign up for Fall auditions: 26 September 2008 (4 p.m.)

Deadline for submission of signed program: 17 October 2008 (4 p.m.) (For more details about these two items see here).

Spring semester 2009: Wednesday, 25 February 2009 and Friday, 27 February 2009

Deadline to sign up for Spring auditions: 23 January 2009 (4 p.m.)
