K702 Doctoral Composition Document I (0 cr.) Movement of chamber music written during a week-long examination period. K703 Doctoral Composition Document II (0 cr.) Setting of a given text during a 24-hour period.
The process in outline:
Once you are ready to start either your K702 (7 day) or your K703 (24 hour) composition exam, please contact the Music Graduate office. The information you will need to give the Music Graduate Office is:
-When you plan to start the K702 or K703 exam (at least 3 weeks in advance). If you would like to do the K702 or K703 exam in the summer, please inform the Music Graduate Office by March 15.
-Who you plan to have serve on your major field Advisory Committee (including who will act as chair). If you have not already done so, please submit an Advisory Committee request form. Information on this process can be found here. If you are completing a Composition minor, then you do not need to submit an Advisory Committee form, but do need to let the Music Graduate Office know who will be participating in your K702 and K703 exams.
The Music Graduate Office will request the exam from your Advisory Committee chair. The exam will include instructions on the expected format of the final project.
On the day you want to start the exam, come to the Music Graduate Office (Merrill Hall 011) to pick up the exam text. If you want to start the exam earlier than you originally planned, please contact the Music Graduate Office to make sure the exam is ready for you to pick up before coming in. If you want to start later than you originally planned, just let the Music Graduate office know about the change.
When you pick up the exam, you will be informed of the date and time the exam needs to be returned. Exams must start and end during regular office hours for the Music Graduate Office. (9:00 a.m. to 12 noon, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Monday through Friday).
Once you have completed the exam, return 4 copies within the time limit to the Music Graduate Office. The score should be neatly copied, with complete and correct information. At least one copy must be photo-copied double sided and either spiral or comb-bound. The other three copies do not need to be bound.
The Music Graduate Office will send the exam to your committee for grading.
Once all three copies are returned, the grades will be averaged and a final grade assigned.
You and your Advisory Committee chairperson will receive an email informing you of the final grade. The Advisory Committee chairperson will then go over the markings on the graded exam copies with you. |
