To schedule a public lecture or defense

To schedule you must have been notified by the Music Graduate Office that your are eligible to schedule your public lecture or defense. Your written component must have been submitted through the Graduate Office and approved for public lecture or defense by each member of your Research Committee.

Once you are eligible to schedule, review available dates on the calendars below.  When you find a date on which you would like to schedule, email the Doctoral Clerk to request the date.  If you would like to talk to the Doctoral Clerk in person, she will generally be in the Music Graduate Office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m.-12 noon.

Once you have reserved a tentative date, you have one week to confirm that tentative date with the members of your Research Committee. If you are able to confirm with all members of your committee, contact our office and we will officially schedule you.  If your entire committee is not available for your reserved date, please contact the Doctoral Clerk to find a new tentative date.

Current calendars

These online calendars are kept as up-to-date as possible, but please keep in mind that a date you request might have been requested by another student by the time you contact the Music Graduate Office.

Months not shown here are not yet available for scheduling. Calendars for the next semester are usually posted around the middle of the current semester.

Click here to open the SPRING 2008 public presentation calendar.

If a date and time on the calendar says "Public Presentation OPEN," then that time is available for you to schedule (as long as someone doesn't schedule it before you). When you find a date on which you would like to take your exam, email the Doctoral Clerk to request the date.

If the date and time on the calendar has been reserved by another student, then you will see that student's name.  It is possible for multiple students to reserve the same public lecture or defense date (just not in the same location).  So if a date is reserved for another student, it may still be possible to hold your defense or public lecture on that same date.  If you would like to request a date that has already been reserved by another student, please just contact the Doctoral Clerk to see whether it will be possible to find another location so that you can hold your public presentation on the same date.
