How to set up your IU
e-mail and computer accounts
If you applied online and have paid your application fee,
you should be able to set up your IU e-mail and computer accounts. If you
applied by paper application, once you have submitted your Residence
Classification form and application fee, you should be able to set up your
IU e-mail and computer accounts. However, please note that some students
(in particular international students) will not be able to set up their accounts
until just a few weeks before Orientation.
Please complete this step
before you arrive for New Student Orientation.
To create and activate your
IU e-mail and computer accounts, simply go to http://itaccounts.iu.edu/ and follow the step by step directions (http://kb.iu.edu/data/achn.html also has details about setting up your IU email and computer accounts).
For example, your first step is to click on the "Create my first IU computing accounts"
link. At the end of
the process you will have an IU Network ID and passphrase (used to log on to IU
computers), and an IU e-mail account. It will take approximately 15 minutes to
complete. Be sure to write down/remember your IU username and passphrase. You
will use these for accessing your IU e-mail account, logging in to IU computers,
and for registration.
You can go to this website to set up your accounts from any computer with internet access.
The Music Graduate Office
often needs to send important notices and reminders to graduate students, and to
do this we usually use e-mail. E-mail is considered an official form of
communication by Indiana University, and it is each student's responsibility to
regularly check your IU e-mail accounts. You can set your IU e-mail
account up so that it is automatically forwarded to another account (such as
hotmail) by following the directions here: http://kb.indiana.edu./data/beoj.html.

About IU e-mail
Official University email accounts are available for all registered students.
The University reserves the right to send official communications to you by
email with the full expectation that you will receive and read these
emails in a timely fashion.
As a student, you are expected to check your email on a frequent and consistent
basis in order to stay current with university-related communications. By doing so, you also avoid going over your email quota and missing
important emails.
NOTE: If you choose to have your email forwarded from your official University
email address to another address, you do so at your own risk.
The University is not responsible for any difficulties that may occur in the
proper or timely transmission or access to email forwarded to any other address,
and any such problems will not absolve students of their responsibility to know
and comply with the content of official communications sent to their official IU
email addresses.
For more on the University's official mail policy, see: http://kb.iu.edu/data/aozw.html
