Audition requirements

 

Bachelor of Music (BM)

 

Fernando Sor: One study between 11-20

H. Villa-Lobos: Prelude #4

H. Villa Lobos: Study #1

J.S. Bach: Prelude from Cello suite #1 (or work of similar difficulty by Bach)

 

All Composition, Music Education and Bachelor of Science applicants:

Master of Music (MM)

Doctor of Music (DM)

 

 

All graduate program require a classical audition. All  graduate auditionees must submit an audio or video cassette before a personal interview will be scheduled. Tapes should be approximately 30-40 minutes in length. All applicants must perform works from each of the following three groups:

 

Group1: (approx. 8-10 min.)

 

Two contrasting movements by J. S. Bach chosen from suites, sonatas or partitas for lute, cello violin and flute including Prelude, Fugue and Allegro for Lute.

 

Group2: (approx. 8-12 min.)

 

One selection from the following:

 

Fernando Sor:  Variatioins op 9, Grand Solo op. 14, Sonata op. 15, Fantasia no.7 op.30,

Sonata op.22, Sonata op. 25, Fantasia op.40, Fantasia Elegiaca op. 59,  Introduction and

Variations op. 26, Introduction and Variations op. 28.

 

Mauro Giuliani: Variations op. 38, 107, 105 or 112,  Rossiniane op. 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, or 124, Grand Sonata op 150, Giulianate op 148,

Grand Overture op. 61.

 

Niccolo Paganini: Grand Sonata in A

 

Group 3: (approx. 8-15 min.)

 

Two works by different composers selected from:

 

H. Villa-Lobos: Preludes1-2-3-4-5, 12 Studies, Choros #1, Suite  Populaire

 

Manuel Ponce: Sonata Mexicana, Romantica,Classica, III, Sonatina Meridional, Theme and Varie et Final, 20 Variations on Folia and Fugue

 

Federico Moreno Torroba: Castles of Spain, Piezas Caracteristicas, Sonatina, Nocturno, Suite Castellana

 

Joaquin Turina: Sonata, Hommage to Tarrega, Fandanguillo, Sevillanas

 

Enrique Granados: Dances 5-10-11, La maja de Goya
