The Secondary/Elective Guitar Program  provides elective guitar instruction, and elective guitar classes for non-music majors.

Course descriptions:

L100/L700/Z110/Z710 Individual classical guitar lessons, 50 minutes each week. Additional
applied fee. Time scheduled with instructor. Classical guitar required.
No previous experience required.

L101 This course is intended as an introduction to acoustic and classical guitar techniques employed in contemporary guitar styles. This will involve learning basic open and bar chords, learning how to read music and play it on the instrument and learning basic classical guitar finger style technique. The course will also cover basic music theory necessary for a) playing songs and b) getting basic fret board knowledge. No previous experience
required.

L102  This course is intended as an expansion on acoustic and classical guitar techniques employed in contemporary guitar playing learned in L101. The emphasis will be on finger style (classical) techniques, music reading and guitar music theory (scales, progressions, chords) necessary for a) playing and writing songs and b) basic improvising skills. Prerequisites: L101 and/or ability to read music and play chord structures proficiently.

L103 Classical: Introduction to Classical guitar music and techniques with
expanding on music reading to the  level of basic sight reading.
Prerequisites:  L102 and/or ability to read music on guitar and play basic
finger styles proficiently.
