Latin American Music

An introductory survey of the art, popular, and traditional music from Latin America, including an examination of their cultural, historical, and social contexts, as well as the major research literature in English.

M690 is suitable as an elective for students in music performance, music scholarship, and Latin-American studies. It is required for those students pursuing an individualized minor in Latin American Music. This course is designed for graduate students. Seniors may be accepted with permission from the instructor. The students' individual interests and approaches to the material will be especially encouraged.
