X414-Latin American Popular Music Ensemble in your academic program

Description of the Ensemble

X414-Latin American Music Ensemble is conceived as a creative workshop in the context of ensemble practice. The course explores original Latin American genres and their corresponding performance practices through the arranging and performance of masterpieces from both the popular and artistic repertoire. Experts in the field are regularly invited to coach with the ensemble. The ensemble presents one concert per semester complemented by invitations to perform around the city and state in both concert and educational events. For current information on these activities, lease visit http://www.music.indiana.edu/som/lamc/

The Latin American Popular Music Ensemble has been directed by José Mariano Morales Matos, Andrew Lázaro, Marcos Cavalcante, Gerardo Dirié, and Gustavo Bugni. It has performed with guest musicians such as Tito Puente and Aquiles Báez. In the last three years the ensemble has extended its repertoire to include music from more Latin American countries and from more diverse stylistic origins.
