Obituary: Lucille Espinosa On Friday, November 26, 2004, Lucille Espinosa of Washington, D.C., died at Manor Care Nursing Home, Bethesda, MD. Mrs. Espinosa was the beloved wife of the late conductor Guillermo Espinosa, artistic director of the InterAmerican Music Festivals that took place from late 1950s up to 1982 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, in Washington D.C. These festivals were extremely influential in the promotion of Latin American composers in the United States. Mrs. Espinosa donated her husband's musical library and archive of memorabilia to the Latin American Music Center in 1992. The archive contains valuable records of the festivals and annotated scores used in the premieres of works by important Latin American composers, letters, photos, and other documents. The archive is available to scholars by appointment. Mrs. Espinosa visited the First Inter-American Composition Workshop at the Latin American Music Center in 1994, to open the event and to view an exhibit of the archives. After this event she maintained a cordial and regular dialogue with the Center. Mrs. Espinosa will be sorely missed. |
