Ensemble Lipzodes:
A Program of Guatemalan Church Music Circa 1582

The Bloomington Early Music Festival is delighted to welcome Ensemble Lipzodes, a superb five-member ensemble that specializes in the music of the16th-century Guatemalan church.

Formed in Bloomington by five members of the renowned Early Music Institute at Indiana University, and named after the Lipzodes manuscript from Guatemala, this exotic and unusual group comprised of voice and early wind instruments will delight the senses! Voice, shawms, and dulcians will bring to life the rarely heard music of early Guatemalan manuscripts, found in Bloomington’s own famed Lilly Library. This ensemble has recently been selected as a finalist in the Early Music America Medieval and Renaissance music competition, and will travel later in the month of October to New York to compete.

Members of the ensemble are: Juan Carlos Arango, shawm and dulcian; Keith Collins, dulcians; Anna Marsh, dulcian; Kathryn Montoya, shawm and dulcian; Wolodymyr J. Smishkewych, tenor and percussion.
