A Tribute to Guillermo Espinosa Wednesday, July 27, 4:30pm, Sweeney Hall To Chamber Group of the Latin American Popular Music Ensemble will perform a concert of works inspired by popular traditions in honor of Colombian conductor Guillermo Espinosa (1905-1990). Guillermo Espinosa promoted the artistic interactions between composers of the continent through the Inter-American festivals which he led from his position of Music Director of the Organization of American States. Works by some of the composers which he promoted and are now famous figures in Latin American music will be included in this concert. The short program will feature a set of charming Colombian salon dances; Alberto's Ginastera's virile Sonata for guitar, inspired by the music of the gauchos; the two Cuban Landscapes for guitar quartet by Leo Brouwer; the beloved Bachiana Brasileira No. 5 by Villa-Lobos; and a group of passionate tangos by Astor Piazzolla. The concert will take place next Tuesday, November 29, at 8pm, in Auer Hall, and is free and open to the public. We hope to see you all there! |
