Competition Results:

2005 Annual Competition in the Performance of Music from Spain and Latin America

The Latin American Music Center, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain, is very pleased to announce the winners of the 8th Annual Competition in Performance of Music from Spain and Latin America.

The jury formed by IU Professors Juan Orrego Salas, Edwin Penhorwood, Edmund Battersby, Ela Szmyt and guest Raphael Jimenez from Michigan State University adjudicated the following awards:

Open Category First Prize ($1000): Jordi Torrent (piano,) a student of Emile Nauomoff.

Open Category Second Prize ($700): Sergio Massardo (piano) a student of Reiko Neriki.

Special Category Prize to the best Latin Combo ($1400): Erik Rasmussen Latin Jazz Trio, formed by Erik Rasmussen, Gustavo Bugni, and Jesse Wittman, coached by Professor Steve Houghton.

Prize to the Best Arrangement of a popular Latin American or Spanish Theme ($400): Eduardo Wolf, Michael Jones, Jose Luis Aguirre, and Hugo Viera, students of Ethnomusicology Professor Ruth Stone, David Baker,and Howard Klug.

The LAMC wants to thank all the students and the faculty who participated in the fields of Early Music, Voice, Bassoon, Clarinet, Cello, Jazz, Piano and Ethnomusicology. The level of the competition was extremely high this year.

The LAMC will announce the guidelines for the 2006 Competition in the Summer.
