American folklorist whose research activities include music from Colombia, Ecuador, and Mexico; Professor (Folklore) and Affiliated Faculty (Chicano-Riqueño Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Semiotic Studies).
He is the author of Poetry and Violence: The Ballad Tradition of Mexico’s Costa Chica (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 2000). He is also co-author of Dancing the Ancestors with Pravina Shukla.
