Merle Simmons

American professor (Spanish), folklorist, and historian whose research activities include music from Mexico; Professor Emeritus (Spanish, Folklore and Ethnomusicology), former Director of Graduate Studies and Chairman (Spanish and Portuguese), and former Chairman (I.U. Program for Overseas Study in Peru, Foreign Study Committee at Indiana University, CIC Committee on Study in Mexico), among other positions at IU.


He is the author of The Mexican Corrido as a Source for Interpretive Study of Modern Mexico, 1870-1950 (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1957).
