This Saturday, February 28th , Sol y Canto is honored to have been invited to perform in one of our most exciting concerts ever with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra . We will perform Brian Amador's  FleetBoston-Celebrity Series commissioned latin orchestral suite along with beloved classics from Puerto Rico and Cuba in a program that promises to appeal to anyone who loves Latin music.

The Boston-based Latin music ensemble Sol y Canto performs with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, February 28th.  The performance will take place in Springfield Symphony Hall and begins at 8 PM.  Tickets are $15-43 ; discounts available for seniors, students, and groups. In this special performance, Sol y Canto (octet) will be special guests of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, in a performance of the ensemble's critically acclaimed orchestral suite, "Prisma de amores" by composer/guitarist Brian Amador, commissioned by the FleetBoston Celebrity Series in 2001.  In this surprising and powerful meditation on the many facets of love, orchestral colors, textures and effects are woven into traditional styles such as Cuban son, bolero, danzón, Puerto Rican bomba, Argentine tango and canción de cuna.  Also included in the concert are a selection of cherished popular boleros, guarachas típicas from Puerto Rico and tangos arranged for Sol y Canto and orchestra including the Puerto Rican classic, "Así es mi tierra" and "Sabor a mí", a renowned, beloved Cuban bolero, among others .

Sol y Canto, which translates as "sun and song," celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2004.  The ensemble is comprised of husband-and-wife team Brian (guitar, vocals,) and Rosi Amador (lead vocals, bongos, small percussion), Alan del Castillo (Andean quena, Central American ocarinas, vocals), Carlos Del Pino (bass), Jon "Chucho" Weeks, Arturo Stable (congas, percussion, vocals), Nando Michelin (piano)and Bernardo Monk (saxophone, flute).  Many of its members graduated from Berklee College of Music and have performed in venues as diverse as the Kennedy Center, the White House, California World Music Festival, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Detroit Festival for the Arts, as well as Boston's Somerville Theater, Sanders Theatre, Jordan Hall and Symphony Hall.  They are past winners of "Best of Boston" from Boston Magazine and "Outstanding Latin Act" from the Boston Music Awards.

LA ORQUESTA SINFÓNICA DE SPRINGFIELD CELEBRA LA SERIE DE CONCIERTOS POPS DEL 2004 CON MÚSICA LATINA PRESENTANDO EL GRUPO SOL Y CANTO

Boston, MA : El grupo musical Sol y Canto , basado en Boston quien celebra su 10º aniversario este año, se prepara para un evento especial donde se presentaran por primera vez con la Orquesta Sinfónica de Springfield (Springfield Symphony Orchestra), con el director musical Kevin Rhodes , el sábado 28 de febrero . El concierto se llevara a cabo en el Springfield Symphony Hall a las 8:00 PM y la taquilla ya esta ofreciendo los boletos a precios de $15 - $43 dólares . En esta presentación especial el octeto Sol y Canto será el invitado especial de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Springfield, donde presenta su críticamente aclamada "suite" titulada "Prisma de amores" compuesta por el director musical de Sol y Canto Brian Amador . "Prisma de Amores" fue comisionado por la serie "Fleet Boston Celebrity Series" en el 2001.  En esta sorprendente y poderosa meditación sobre las grandes facetas del amor, los colores, efectos, y las texturas se combinan con estilos tradicionales tales como el son cubano, el bolero, danzón, la bomba puertorriqueña, el tango de Argentina y la canción de cuna. También estarán presentando selecciones del repertorio popular puertorrique—no,  tales como "Obsesión" de Pedro Flores, "Capullito de alelí" de Rafael Hernández y "Así es mi tierra" , y boleros cubanos queridos incluyendo "Sabor a mi" y "Quiéreme mucho". La Sinfónica también presentará  samba/jazz y bossa nova con música del famoso compositor brasileño Antonio Carlos Jobim . Otros temas incluidos son, el bolero  "Obsession", el huayno de Bolivia "Papel de Plata", el tema cubano "El Vendedor", y un tango de Argentina "Se Alquila".

El sello sonoro que identifica a Sol y Canto está enmarcado por la guitarra cálida y versátil de Brian Amador y la voz expresiva y cristalina de su esposa y cantante principal Rosi Amador . El sonido de los líderes del grupo es complementado por los prodigiosos talentos de hasta cinco experimentados músicos. Arturo Stable , quien nació en Cuba, toca las congas y otras percusiones con una fuerte convicción, dado a su profundo conocimiento y entendimiento de los estilos tradicionales Afro-cubanos. El cubano Carlos Del Pino aporta al grupo un sólido soporte musical a través de la ejecución de un bajo hecho para él por su padre de forma muy inusual. Jon Weeks , oriundo de New England, toca los saxos (alto, tenor y soprano), y la flauta, trayendo al grupo una creatividad armónica a través de sus líneas melódicas, con un profundo respeto por la autenticidad. Bernardo Monk, de Argentina aporta flauta y saxo al sonido del grupo. Nando Michelín , oriundo de Uruguay, toca teclados, y aporta al grupo su experiencia como destacado pianista de jazz con un amplio conocimiento en las formas musicales latinas. El Dr. Alan del Castillo , colega desde sus días en Boston, quien toca las ocarinas, la quena Andina, la guitarra y su voz melodiosa, también se une al grupo y es destacado en la más reciente producción musical.

Varios de los integrantes del grupo se graduaron de Berklee College of Music y se han presentado en prestigiosos teatros, eventos y lugares conocidos como el Kennedy Center, la Casa Blanca (White House), California World Music Festival, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Detroit Festival for the Arts, y el Boston Somerville Theater entre muchos más. El grupo fue nombrado entre "lo mejor de 1996" por Hispanic Magazine y "el mejor grupo Latino" en los premios musicales de Boston, "Boston Music Awards".
