Prerequisite

Demonstrated ability to play the organ, to be determined by audition.

Major Field

Admission to the curriculum is determined on the basis of an audition.

All students seeking to minor in Organ Performance and/or Church Music at the graduate level are required to take a 10-15 minute audition for the organ faculty. Admission to the minor field will be based on this audition. The audition should be arranged with the Organ Department Chair, and needs to have been completed before the end of the first week of the first semester of organ study. Those not admitted are encouraged to study the organ at the elective level (Q700), and in some cases may be admitted to the Organ Minor after completing a semester or two of elective organ study. Minors in Organ may be in Organ Performance only (4 semesters of Q800, 3 credits each semester), or may include a combination of courses in Organ Literature (M675, M676, M677, M678), Organ Pedagogy (E589), or Church Music. See the list of courses offered in Church Music, Organ Literature, and Organ Pedagogy. The contents of the minor field require the approval of the Department Chair.
