Temperatures within the Music Annex, which contains the majority of the practice rooms in the School of Music, vary widely. Temperatures between neighboring rooms can differ by up to 20 degrees. This poses a risk to many valuable instruments and causes discomfort to those who are trying to practice.

The SRC contacted Larry Stoute, head of Music Operations, to find out about possible solutions to the climate control problem in the Music Annex. He informed us that the temperature of the building is actually controlled by the Phsyical Plant. Futhermore, the heating system is so complicated that nobody knows which thermostats control which rooms. Larry Stoute gave us the phone number of the person in charge of heating and cooling at the Physical Plant.

The next course of action will be to contact the Physical Plant to find out whether or not they can maintain a more constant temperature in the Music Annex.
