Activities do not cease for the School of Music during the summer. In particular, IU is home to string and piano academies that both take up practice room space. Because both of these camps occur during Summer Session II, when School of Music classes are offered, there is heavy competition for practice rooms.

A few members of the SRC have talked to the heads of the violin and piano academies to try to help School of Music students. From these discussions, we have learned that academy participants do NOT have priority from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM, as was posted on the doors of practice rooms this past summer. Instead, academy participants have priority during certain hours. For the piano academy, these are:

8:00 AM-10:15 AM
3:00 PM-5:30 PM

String academy practice times are similar. These hours were designed with IU students in mind. The afternoon times are during IU ensembles in order to create the least conflict. The heads of these academies are trying hard to create a cooperative environment between IU students and academy participants.

Additionally, Jeff Leigh is working to create special notices to be posted on practice room doors that explain the policies regarding who has priority at what times during the day.
