Dr. Potter has taught at several universities in California and was a visiting professor at the Musikwissenschaftliches Institut of the University of Hamburg in 1991-92. His special interests include music theory pedagogy, teaching musical skills, twentieth-century music, and jazz studies. His articles appear in the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, College Music Symposium, and Jazzforschung. He also has extensive experience as a performer (keyboards, trombone, bass) and has published recordings and CD's. A contributor of questions for GRE Music Tests, he also regularly acted as Chief Reader for the exams.
