What about parking? If parents bring automobiles to campus, there is a parking garage behind Eigenmann Hall. How and when do I register for the workshop? Registration is on Sunday, July 20, 2 – 4 p.m., in the lobby of the Eigenmann Hall residence hall (See map). You will be sent registration information in June. What happens there? You will receive a packet that contains an outline of activities for the college audition workshop and other information.
When is the workshop over? CAP will end on July 26 – breakfast will be served but no activities are planned and all students need to check out between 9:00 a.m. and noon. CAP counselors will be present to assist students with check out.
What should I bring with me? Bloomington can be very warm and humid in July, so plan your wardrobe accordingly. Comfortable shoes and a sweater or sweatshirt are good ideas. The classroom facilities are air-conditioned and sometimes rooms are a little cool. Also, we do have occasional cold snaps, which make a sweater very useful. An umbrella will probably be a good idea, too!
What about my instrument and music? You will need your instrument and the audition music you feel would be appropriate.
What is in store for me? Experts in the various disciplines will lead sessions devoted to selecting repertoire, controlling performance anxiety, performance and interview skills, how to make the best impression at auditions, and what to expect on audition day. Faculty will demonstrate proper performance techniques in individual lessons and recitals. Mock auditions will be organized. Each student will be individually counseled during the program.
In addition, CAP will offer discussions on freshman concerns such as theory, placement auditions, lessons, ensembles, career and degree possibilities, financial aid, etc. The workshop provides the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a major music school. Parents and other interested parties may take part in selected meetings.
