Course Information
The
Pre-College Guitar Program offers
students from 5 to 18 years old the opportunity to study
guitar through individual lessons and group interaction with
classically trained professional musicians. Lessons are offered year-round.
Each student participates in one private lesson per week
during the academic year - more intensive study is offered
during the summer session. Students also have the option to
attend one additional group lesson per week.
At the end of each semester, students will demonstrate
their accomplishments by performing a recital in one of the
concert halls at the Jacobs School of Music.
Objectives
The Jacobs Pre-College Guitar Program is
designed to establish a strong musical and technical
foundation for playing. The teaching method is very
effective, with students already playing after the first
lesson. Students will master the fundamentals that allow
them the skills to perform any type of music, join a variety
of ensembles or even pursue studies at the collegiate level.
Beginning students will acquire basic technique using
familiar tunes that correspond to their age. Intermediate
level students will establish a repertoire in Latin
American, Spanish and classical guitar styles, as well as
learn and create fingerpicking arrangements of popular
tunes.
Sessions and Fees
In order to accommodate a variety of needs for parents
and students an option-based method of payment is
available. Please refer to the registration form for
details.
