Summer Opera Workshop

Skip Left NavigationSummer Opera Workshop

Patricia Stiles, Coordinator, has performed over 70 operatic roles throughout Europe and America.  She has given recitals and has presented master classes in Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia, Czech Republic, Mexico and the United States.  Ms. Stiles has been teaching voice at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music since 1998.

This coming summer will be Sophie Roland's fifth year as a director for the Indiana University Summer Opera Workshop.  Her directing has consistently brought out the best in the singers. Sophie received her DM in Voice Performance at IU, studying with Professor Cuccaro and is making a name for herself internationally singing mezzo soprano roles.  She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Western Ontario now and is combing her teaching and singing with her directing.  Ms. Roland staged the North American pre mire of Lully's Thesee to great critical success.  Among her other directing credits include Puccini's Suor Angelica, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Die Auberflote, and Le nozze di Figaro.

We are very happy to have the dynamic multifaceted director, conductor, and producer, Timothy Nelson, again this year as Director.  As artistic director of American Opera Theater, a national touring opera company in residence at Georgetown University, Nelson has been at the forefront of some of the most exciting new productions in recent years.  Last summer as a director of the SOW, he delighted the participants and audience with his very inventive staging of standard repertoire.  The productions he has directed include Purcell's Dido and Aenaes, Mozart's Il Re pastore, Cavalli's La Calisto and many others.
