Faculty Director of Opera Choruses: Walter Huff

Audition: Required

The Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater produces six fully-staged operas every year. Many of these operas contain a choral component, and this offers one of the most exciting and intensive performing opportunities to students at the Jacobs School. Led by Faculty Director of Opera Choruses, Walter Huff, as well as a team of graduate choral conducting majors, students in the IU opera choruses come into contact with some of the greatest works of dramatic music. Singers in the opera choruses also receive extensive training and coaching in diction, movement, memorization, and other fundamental skills necessary to bring opera to life.

Participating in the IU Opera Chorus is also an excellent way to learn operatic repertoire. Recent productions with opera choruses include It's a Wonderful Life, Akhnaten, Don Giovanni, H.M.S. Pinafore, Falstaff, Xerxes, The Marriage of Figaro, Cendrillon, West Side StoryRomeo et Juliette, La Rondine, Lucia di Lammermoor, Die Zauberfloete, Love for Three Oranges, La Traviata, Susannah, Rigoletto, Most Happy Fella, L'elisir d'amore, Cosi Fan Tutte, La Boheme, A View from the Bridge, Der Rosenkavalier, Candide, and L'Italiana in Algeri.
