Tomoko Kashiwagi is visiting lecturer in music in chamber and collaborative music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Kashiwagi was previously associate professor of piano and collaborative piano and held the Emily J. McAllister Endowed Chair at the University of Arkansas, where she joined the faculty in 2012. She is also the founder of the Ozark Music Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to building community through music.

Her work has been supported by multiple Mid-America Arts Alliance grants. In 2025, she was inducted into the Steinway & Sons Music Teacher Hall of Fame in recognition of her commitment and passion as piano educator. She has presented multiple times at CollabFest, the conference of the International Keyboard Collaborative Arts Society.

Maintaining an active performance career across the United States and internationally, Kashiwagi is dedicated to exploring a wide range of repertoire as both a performer and educator, with a particular passion for collaborative playing.

She earned a Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Performer Diploma in Piano Performance from Indiana University. She later became the inaugural recipient of the Doctor of Musical Arts in Collaborative Piano degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied with Anne Epperson, current chair of Jacobs’ Department of Chamber and Collaborative Music.
