We proudly announce the 2020 Edward Auer Summer Workshop, to take place at the Jacobs School of Music in July. It is our honor to have our first time guests, the distinguished pianists, Veda Kaplinsky, Misha and Cipa Dichter and the founder of YCA, Susan Wadsworth


Celebrate Beethoven and His Legacy:

During the 12-day festival we will hear many important Beethoven works: piano solo and chamber music with piano, along with some pre-concert talk; Op. 106 (Hammerklavier), the last piano sonata Op.111, Pian trio Op.1, No.3; trio, Op. 11 with clarinet, Archduke trio, Eroica Variations, Diabelli Variations and more! 


Application Deadline:

Participants must apply by May 1, 2020

Auditors may apply until July 1, 2020


The Auer Workshop: Then and Now

The Edward Auer Workshop began as a Chopin Class more than 25 years ago with a single teacher. Now there will be more than 10 internationally active musicians joining the workshop to guide and inspire participants. Since 2015, the Auer Workshop has offered ONLINE participation and auditioning. We welcome anybody who is interested from all over the world!


Solo Competition in Two Categories: 

1. Free Repertoire Choice Solo Competition:

Senior Division: Ages 18 and over - a minimum of 20 minutes of repertoire requirements: One virtuosic etude and one lyrical piece should be included.

Junior Division: Under 18 - a minimum of 10 minutes of repertoire requirements: One lyrical piece should be included.

2. Beethoven Repertoire Solo Competition:

For both Senior and Junior Division: Any complete solo work of Beethoven piece(s) more than 20 minutes of work. For example, A complete sonata, A compete set of Variations or a combination of a few works. 

First Place winner(s) of the Solo Competition will be invited to the 2020 Auer Workshop to perform a solo recital. This Summer 2019 junior winners Daniel Qin, Hyeonho Lee, Sintaek Kim and senior winners Benjamin Eilliott, Eunyoung Lee, Wooyoung Cho will come to Bloomington to perform. 


Master Classes and Individual Lessons:

Study with internationally active pianists and learn from talented peers! There will be more than 8 master classes and a total of more than 160 individual lessons. 


Concerts and Valuable Friendships:

Numerous masterclasses will be taught by workshop faculty members and there will be many concerts and recitals by guest solo and chamber artists. Get to know these artists closely and mingle with other participants at the masterclasses, concerts, and parties!
