Audition Information

Audition: General Applicants

This program is intended for participants ages 18 and older.

There is no audition for applicants in either the choral or organ tracks.

Audition: Participants in “Rehearsal Techniques Masterclass”

Audition: “Rehearsal Techniques for the Choral Conductor.” The course will be open to all as observers/singers. Those wishing to participate as a conductor in this course should indicate this on the application form and submit a video recorded audition (DVD or YouTube link) consisting of two contrasting choral works conducted in either a rehearsal or performance setting.

  • Non-Refundable Application Fee: $70
  • Participant Tuition: $350
  • Discount for two or more from the same instititution: $300
  • On-Campus Housing in Willkie Residence center: $50 per night (Willkie Residence Center rooms are single suites with sharing bathrooms. Basic linens are included. Meals are NOT included.) *Please be advised that dormitory lodging, while safe, convenient and inexpensive, is very basic accomodation. Those wishing for lodging at a higher level of comfort are advised to investigate one of Bloomington's many hotel options or Airbnb listings. 

*There is no financial aid available for this workshop.

Confirmation of course Participation and Requests

As stated above, late applications will be accepted but please be aware that space for private lessons may be limited after May 1. A full listing of each applicant's course schedule that confirms private lesson assignments will be sent to each registrant by the course director on or before the May 1 deadline.


Refund and Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made in writing to the Director, cc' the Office of Special Programs, and are subject to the following deadlines and fees;

-Cancellations prior to 5 days before arrival incur a $200 cancellation penalty (this includes the $70 non-refundable registration fee plus processing fees). Any remaining fees paid (minus the $200 cancellation charge) will be refunded.

-Cancellations less than 5 days prior to arrival will not receive a refund except in the case of a documented emergency.

-No refunds will be offered for dismissal due to violation of Sacred Music Intensive, Indiana University, state, or federal rules, early departure due to homesickness; voluntary withdrawal or temporary absence.

When circumstances necessitating withdrawal are beyond the student’s control (e.g., serious illness, or death in the student’s family), exceptions to the above policy may be made on the recommendation of the Directors.

  • No scholarships or financial aid awards are available for this program.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • I do not hold a music degree and only have a part-time church position. Can I attend?
    The SMI is designed to inspire and instruct church musicians who come with a broad range of backgrounds so, yes, by all means.
  • Can I request a teacher?
    Applicants are able to request a teacher or teachers and, while we will try to accommodate all such requests, we cannot guarantee it.

The Jacobs School of Music reserves the right to cancel a workshop if enrollment is not met. Participants will be informed 2 weeks before the start of the workshop and receive a full refund.
