Philip Ponella is Chief Administrative Officer and Wennerstrom-Phillips Music Library Director of the William & Gayle Cook Music Library at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In his CAO role, he oversees the school’s administrative operations—including financial management, facilities, human resources, technology, and libraries. Ponella’s portfolio includes media production, streaming and video recording, and digital platforms that enable teaching, research and creative activity across the school.
He participates in the coordination of the Specialization in Music Librarianship and co‑teaches the Seminar in Music Librarianship offered through the Department of Information and Library Science in IU’s Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. He previously taught the Jacobs School’s graduate Music Bibliography course.
Before joining IU, Ponella was Director of Academic Technology Services at the University of Rochester, and Director of Technology and Media Production at the Eastman School of Music.
His service includes grant review committees for the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the National Endowment for the Humanities, participation in the National Recorded Sound Preservation Plan (Copyright, Preservation, and Public Access Task Force), and presentations at regional, national, and international conferences. Honors include awards from the Surdna Foundation, H. W. Wilson Company, and the Music Library Association.
